When does your business need
a design system
?

Not every company needs it now. Here are five signs that your team can't do without it, and what happens if you wait another six months.

Your developers are reimplementing the same components.

If the development team wrote three different versions of the same button, four product cards with slightly different layouts, or two dropdown menus with incompatible behaviors in the same product, you have a design system problem. Each reimplementation costs prepaid development hours.

Each sprint introduces new visual inconsistencies .

The blue of the button on page A is not the same blue as the button on page B. The font of the title varies by section. The margins between the elements follow different logics in each component. When there's no shared reference, each developer decides for themselves and the interface becomes a mosaic of misaligned micro-decisions.

The onboarding time for new developers exceeds 2 weeks

If a new developer needs more than two weeks to understand how the product interface is organized and what conventions to follow, documentation is insufficient. A design system reduces technical onboarding to 2-3 days because the rules are written once in one place.
